Australian search portal, Mooter.com.au, has signed an agreement with Yahoo-owned Overture to provide pay-per-click search engine advertising. Mooter will display the sponsored listings beside their own.
Mooter's search engine returns cluster results to users. There is also an option on the results page to click over to traditional search engine results. As reported in ZDNet.com.au, the search engine receives revenue from licensing fees for its patented search algorithm.
The algorithm takes a personal approach to search. It tries to anticipate user search intentions by studying searcher behavior patterns. The CEO of MooterSearch, Leisl Capper, is a trained psychologist, and believes that studying "underlying patterns of personal search" will give more targeted advertising and search results.
Mooter's algorithm accesses the company's own global listing index, and has no plans to partner with Google. Capper stated, "we think our own algorithms are pretty good. We don't just want to be a Google portal which is what you end up being."
